There are so many rifles out there that gun enthusiasts look at.  Many look for marlin rifles because of the history these rifles have.  John Marlin manufactured his own line of firearms in 1870.  That is the beginning of Marlin rifles.  And when he died in 1901, his two sons continued the tradition of making excellent rifles. Marlin engineers from the start have always sought constant improvement on their firearms.  They developed the first side-ejecting, solid-top receiver which is called the marlin safety.  And they continue to raise the bar in the firearm manufacturing industry even today.   And you can be sure that every Marlin rifle you will purchase will carry the mark of John Marlin.

Varmint hunting is what I really love doing!  For me, it’s more than just my means of releasing stress.  With this hobby, I get to have the chance of enjoying the outdoors and still maintain an active lifestyle but without the pressures and demands of work. The reward that I get from this hobby is the top-notch catch of the day that mostly I collect and stuffed and a long day of fun-filled adrenalin rush with my pals.

Whenever there’s a planed activity, it takes me a week of preparing.  In this duration, I usually get what I need for the participation.  If it’s an overnight adventure, I make sure that I have everything that I need to enjoy and survive. And if it’s a day adventure, what I carry with me is a backpack with food and nourishment plus my ever reliable Remington 700.  The long preparation also helps me to even out anything bulky that I bring with me since it helps me to enjoy more when travelling light.

Gerber Knives

December 8, 2008
gerber-nealsoutdoors.jpg

For almost 70 years now, Gerber has been known to produce the best outdoor tools and knives. Gerber knives are noted for their oxidized carbon tough stainless steel blades that retain their sharpness longer compared to their top competitors. Every outdoorsman can attest to the credibility of Gerber knives. These cutting tools have gone through and passed countless field tests for over 50 years and topped them every time.

Joseph Gerber started making knives with an unlikely and unintentional beginning.  An accomplished advertising man, Mr. Gerber hired a knife craftsman to make him 25 sets of kitchen cutlery as Christmas gifts for his clients. The knives were so popular; he left his ad agency and started the legendary Gerber blades in 1939.

Springfield 1911

December 8, 2008

m1911-pistol-nealsoutdoors.jpgGet one of the most efficient side arms used by the United States Armed Forces from 1911 to 1985. The Springfield 1911 or the M1911 served the U.S. armed forces throughout two world wars, the Korean war and the Vietnam war. During the 2nd world war, its official designation was Automatic Pistol Caliber .45. The basic design of the M1911 is the short recoil principle self-loading pistol. This system replaced the traditional revolver handguns that carried several limitations.

During the span of its service for over 70 years, the US government procured around 2.7 million units of M1911. Among John Browning’s designs, the M1911 is the most famous and most widely copied by other gun manufacturers. The M1911 operating system has become the foundation of almost all 20th century modern center fire pistols.

Don’t Point, Don’t Shoot

October 22, 2008
Remington 700 CDL rifle

Put away those guns and rifles until you understand the basic tenets of gun safety. Thousands of accidents and deaths are caused each year as a direct result of gun safety ignorance. Gun safety isn’t rocket science and even a child is capable of learning a couple rules that may save his life or someone else’s. The National Rifle Association points out three fundamental gun safety rules that should never be ignored—so, whether you’ve got Remington rifles or a semi-automatic machine gun you should follow these rules.

1. Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
2. Always keep your finger off the trigger until you’re ready to shoot.
3. Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.

deer

Unless you’re a zoologist you probably don’t think much about how animals communicate with one another. Sure we’ve all heard of whales singing and dolphins sending sonar signs to one another, but how do the rest of animals communicate?
Deer are common in many parts of North America, and though we often see them we probably don’t know much about them.

Deer use scent to send messages to other deer. They have glands on different parts of their bodies that emit pheromones. Deer scents are used to warn other deer of impending danger or as a tool for attracting mates.

What is a KA-BAR Knife?

September 22, 2008

KA-BAR knifeIf you’re in the market for a new knife, it is understandably overwhelming. There are so many different kinds and styles that it can be difficult choosing which blade is right for you. One of the terms commonly known to knife aficionados is the KA-BAR knife. But what exactly sets a KA-BAR apart from the rest?

First, a KA-BAR is a type of Bowie knife. (And a Bowie knife is distinguished by a large, sheath blade that is manufactured with a clip point.) Generally speaking, KA-BARs are about one foot in length with a seven inch blade, and it was the preferred tool of United States Marine Corps and Navy during World War II. The materials from which it is primarily made include 1095 carbon steel with a non-slip, rubber substitute handle.

While the knife was originally instated for military use, it remained popular with individuals long after the war. In particular, they are still used extensively by experienced woodsmen, hikers, hunters, and fishers.

FFL Holders

August 18, 2008
Taurus 1911

FFL stands for Federal Firearms License.  All firearms purchased from Neal’s Outdoors must be shipped to a FFL holder by law.  There is an FFL Holder Network in place that is structured to allow consumers to contact FFL holders locally that can manage the transfer of a firearms sale.

The FFL holder will usually charge a small fee for providing these conveyance services.  In addition to the FFL holder fees, there may be local laws in effect requiring the collection of sales tax, background check fees, or other costs related to the transfer.  It is essential that you contact the FFL holder in your area for verification of total fees, to make sure you pass any mandatory background checks, and to verify the legality of the firearm you wish to buy, whether a Taurus 1911 or a Ruger GP100.
